The figure looms large, a bloated parade float suspended above the mass of riotous figures, its mask a stern Orwellian face, the fleshy torn head stuffed with lies and demagoguery. The hand extended not in succor, only bloody resolve.
The facade of national political discourse reduced to sound bites and dogma, politics but not governance. Catastrophes of epic proportions unfold as the party in power postures and 'markets' its private world view as the brand of choice for everyone. This is the antithesis of social discourse and progress. 'Ignorance is Strength', could be emblazoned across the looming figure - as appropriate today as it was in the 1940s when Orwell penned it.
About William Stoneham
Born in October 1947 I lived in an orphanage until I was adopted in July 1948. I think my artistic instincts were first influenced by the music my adopted parents listened to when I was a toddler. Stravinskys’ The Firebird suite with beautiful cover art , Mussorgskys’ Night on Bald Mountain in Disneys Fantasia inspired me. At the age of eight my father left my mother and I, seeking greener pastures. I was essentially raised by my mother with her intellectual passions and her unending support for my insatiable curiosity. Being an only child, I relied on imagination and endless possibilities - inventing scenarios for my friends and I to perform. I took up painting at age fifteen, even selling some of my early works.
